Ludwig

Spring 1998 - October 2003

Though people normally pay several hundred dollars for a marble bengal, Ludwig came to us as a stray kitten (truth be told, I'm sure he wasn't fully bengal, but he looked convincingly purebred enough to pass). I'm the one responsible for his unconventional name--I named him after King Ludwig II of Bavaria (not Ludwig von Beethoven) because, as a kitten, he was shy and reclusive and just...well...odd, much like King Ludwig himself was. :-) Ludwig the cat grew out of that, for the most part, and became a very graceful, rough-and-tumble, aloof cat with his own agenda.

Unfortunately, that agenda led to his untimely death at the young age of five, when he was attacked and killed by a Rottweiller a neighbour refused to keep on a leash. (So if you are also an owner of a large breed dog, please be sure to keep it properly tied or confined, for the safely of your neighbours' pets and children. Even if you don't think your dog would hurt anything--it's better to be safe than sorry. Believe me.)
