Guardian Angel
(July 2001; modeled in Poser 4 and Bryce 4) I was inspired to do this picture after I read about an urban legend concerning a stone angel in a New England cemetery. The angel was called "Black Aggie," and the urban legend has a frat or sorority use the angel as an initiation right--an initiate had to spend the night in the angel's arms. The angel was supposedly haunted by the spirit of a young woman who died of a broken heart, and her spirit would come in the night and kill the initiates in her arms. I decided to take the "Black Aggie" legend in a different direction. This Angel is a protector; the young Goth in her arms was being persued by evil in this cemetery, but the Angel intervened and will hold him in her protective arms until dawn. Credits for various elements:
- tombstones, hair, and angel wing object meshes were downloaded (original creators' names have been lost--if you are the creator, please contact me) - All texture, transparency, and bump maps on Goth guy done by me; other textures and materials are Bryce procedural textures.
