Poems

Consequence

by Jennifer Pitcock
(For the collapse of the World Trade Center, Sept. 11, 2001)

Burning hatred borne on wings,
Within it, captive innocence sings.
Course set straight for the Tower of Kings,
And bears them to the mouth of Hell.

Moments only, crawling slow,
A second vulture lands its blow.
The wailing wraiths in ashes glow,
The towers twain collapsed and fell.

The loss of life is thousands gone,
Blameless phantoms left to haunt.
A madman?s toys employed to taunt,
A call to war instead of mourning bells.
