Song Lyrics

Fire Game

by Jennifer Pitcock

Verse One:
The embers drink the breeze like wine--
They grow, they breathe, they fly.
The night creeps in and they begin
To flame--to burn so high.
But this angelic devil-dance
Is danger in disguise--
Yet Hell could never keep me from
The magic in your eyes.

Chorus:
White king's queen or black king's pawn--
Which am I? Do you know?
Captured by your gallant knight,
The board begins to glow.
The flames spring up in every square,
No corner left unharmed--
This fire game we play tonight
Leaves me dying in your arms.

Verse Two:
The rope we walk is like a blade--
We dare, we chance, we bleed.
But nothing scares me like the flame
That screams each time we meet.
Who will rise from all the ash
And who will die in flames?
Who will win and who will lose
This dangerous fire game?

(Chorus)
